Boats donated in memory of Mr Shipley

We are really grateful to receive a very generous donation from Mrs Shipley, as part of the Rod Shipley Memorial Fund donated to Chesil Trust. Details on the Rod Shipley Memorial Fund and his biography can be found on the Chesil Trust website. The cheque was formally handed over to the Chesil Trust by Mrs Shipley (left) to Diana Ludlow (Chairman, centre) and Simon Williams (Patron, right) at a reception at WPNSA.   Members of Chesil Sailability were also invited to the celebrations, from left to right: Simon Williams (Trustee); Anya de Iongh (sailor); Adam Greaves (volunteer), Philip Hall (sailor and Trustee); Marcus Frith (Sailing Director); David Dunn (Management Committee); and John Tweed (volunteer). The close partnership between Chesil Sailability and Chesil Trust means that in addition to supporting the local Sail for Fiver scheme for young people, two boats can be purchased for Chesil Sailability, to enable local people with disabilities to get on the water. The two will be named after Rod Shipley, and launching ceremonies will be announced in due course, once the new boats have arrived from the manufacturers. For Chesil Sailability, this is a real milestone in getting our own boats, and therefore a milestone for our whole community, to enable us deliver a meaningful legacy from the 2012 Paralympics and support local people with disabilities to enjoy the sport of sailing.
