Disability Awareness Training

The RYA Sailability training programme for volunteers includes a day's training on disability awareness. 8 of our volunteers completed this in June - it was very interesting day, giving us lots to think about when running our on the water sessions, but also helping us feel more confident about it all too! One of the activities involved all holding a length of rope and trying to arrange ourselves into a square - whilst blindfolded! This required a lot of communication skills, and although amusing, it taught us some great lessons about how things may be perceived by people with hearing or visual impairments. Since doing this training, two of our team, Marcus & Anya, have qualifies to deliver this training to the rest of our volunteers, which is great news! We plan to hold more such courses in the future.
